Today’s word: blessed
Okay, I’m sort of stuck on the gratitude thing, but I feel compelled to share a second helping of this nourishing stuff.
I have been focusing my morning mediations on gratitude because it quite frankly, elevates me. I feel like nothing can harm me; as if I’m wrapped in peace and grace.
We’ve all heard the following quote:
“I complained about my shoes until I met a man without feet.”
This quote is almost a joke now, or at least a cliché. So let me put some “real” into it.
I complained about my job until I met a woman who had no job and no place to live. Wait. That woman was me, five years ago.
I complained about a family member until I met a woman who had betrayed her own children and by the grace of God, she was forgiven and loved. Yep, that was me too.
I complained about my health until I met a woman who suffered with depression and anxiety every single day. You guessed it. Me.
Today I have a wonderful, blessed life and I am thankful for every moment of it. I don’t ever want to take any of it for granted. But here’s the thing. I didn’t start being grateful after life got better. I started saying “Thank You, God.” That is what made things better. The more I felt gratitude for what I had, the more I had to be thankful for.
Let me say that again for the people in the cheap seats. I was grateful before I felt I had much to be grateful for. I said things like “Thank you, God, for the air in my lungs and the strength in my legs.” That’s all it took. Love your blessings and you will have more. Happiness breeds happiness.
Takeaway: No matter where you are on your journey, you have something good. Focus on the good. Focus on one or two things that you feel lucky to have. Or just do like I did and walk around looking for a blessing, and say “Thank you, God.”
Today’s goal: Today I will look at my life through the lens of gratitude. I will see every situation as a blessing.
Affirmation to go:
I am lucky and blessed and in the flow of God’s amazing plan!
